DEAR DIARY August 2004-2006:
The Dear Diary series was begun in August of 2004 when on vacation, I ran out of paper in my journal. There are words underneath all of the paintings. These words are my journal. The form and rhythm of the words provide an underpainting for the final image.
Art has always been another language for me, one that was far more dependable and trustworthy than words. To see my words, my spoken language, become part of the vocabulary of my visual language has been a fascinating process. Of course my private thoughts; the words, must have some influence on the final piece, but it is a subversive influence, part aesthetic, and part emotional. The title of each piece is contained within the words submerged below the paint and mixed media. What seems to evolve in the process is the addition of another layer of dialogue between me, the art materials, and the art.
